Artistfacts:
All 3 members play turntables. They create their sounds by manipulating records, often changing speeds and scratching over them.
They often use guest rappers to add vocals to their tracks. They have worked with Everlast, Big Pun, and Linkin Park.
They were originally known as The X-men, but changed the name so they wouldn't get sued by the comic book.
All of them started out as DJs for various rappers.
The group started out as a side project for various DJs, with members coming and going. They pared down to 3 when they signed a record deal.
In the early days of rap, DJs, or "Turntableists," were considered equals with the emcees who rapped over their music. Record companies started marketing the rappers alone, however, and the DJs became unknown. The X-Ecutioners are fighting to change the perception that rappers are more important than DJs.
They constantly search for new records to create their sounds. While on tour, they often go to record stores and search through their vinyl.
A big challenge is getting permission to use the records they sample. There is usually a delay between when they finish a song and when they can release it because they have to get legal clearance for any records they use.
