TIME SIGNATURES AND TEMPOSSubmitted by HAACK on Tue, 2008-01-01 05:39.
Whats up everyone, I just wanted to ask the more experienced drum and bass producers on this forum what tempo and time signatures they use in general. It would be helpful for specifically neurofunk and darkstep drum and bass styles. Thanks. ( categories: Production questions )

Hello everyone! I am composing for some time now, but haven't released anything yet. So... I've been lurking around this forum, and I tought I should upload my latest tune here, maybe some of you can give me a feedback if it sounds good enough to release it on the internet. So what do you think? ( don't know why won't attach the file... I uploaded it here: rapidshare.com/files/61424996/Peter_D_-_I_Wish.mp3.html ) ( categories: Unreleased tune evaluation )
check out this patch!!!Submitted by synthsoundz on Fri, 2007-09-28 12:46.
Hi. ive just been building patches for albino synthsoundz.com/scratchpatch.mp3 It's bascially FM synthesis using two sine waves and slowed right down. I then attached an LFO to a filter cutoff to make it sound more realistic. Personally if someone played this to me and told me it was them scatching i would belive them. Im going to remake the patch using reaktor at some point. The reason why is because i would like the modulation target to be an audio file instead of a sine wav. Although you can input audio into albino you can only use it as the modulation source not the target. worth a pop anyway. ( categories: Off topic area )
basseline from beatsSubmitted by guanokalong on Tue, 2007-09-25 21:40.
| yep try to isolate the lows from the rest before further processing. -track to 3 different mixer tracks to start with. if you understood this well you ended up with 2 bass(lowkick) channels, now if you give these 2 sents at the beginning(you have 4 now!) - now you sould ectualy buildup a mirror sent of everything you do -now you can fuck around with: verbs, destortions, choruses, and compression to create it flOhw. -it would be nice to split the below 250 from the rest (so 2 extra mixer channels would be nice) but fuck that till a later setup. -than your flanger or hi-lo pass modulation, distortion automation, other filter cutoffs. www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.php ( categories: Elements )
the photoshop sound editSubmitted by guanokalong on Tue, 2007-09-25 12:55.
I posted this technique quiet long ago on a DOA article about some Aphex twins tread, I can't find it back but try to describe it again because the results wher pretty amazing. -export a sound file to raw- format(you can do so in cool edit, audition or check your sound editor if it can do so...) check these for some results: original: processed: ( categories: Elements )
vst preset generatorSubmitted by guanokalong on Tue, 2007-09-25 10:58.
pretty good preset generator vor vst's, works on vanguard with nice results, freezes with albino3 and z3ta, zerovector just except single presets sourceforge.net/projects/vst-preset-gen just import>import information from vst plugin> browse to your plugin folder and sellect the plugin dll you want to make any preset on, with the heavy vst's use the single preset (fxp)option, or(fxb) with a low number of programs to start with ,if this goes fast than you can use the fxb with 100programs, -start your vst (note that a big amount some will be silences) with a bit of tweaking on some sounds you could get some realy nice stuff.

RASTABOX Free dub noisemaker VST KVR Developer Challenge entery!!!Submitted by lithium on Sat, 2007-09-22 20:19.
I just wanted to tell everybody about my entery for the KVR Developer Challenge 2007. It's called Rastabox and I created it for making dubby, spacey, sci-fi noises. Rastabox can make anything from classic dub siren to all kinds of vintage video game sounds. Rastabox is intended for live on the fly recording and performance, so tweaking the speed and depth knobs as you play will produce nice results. I kept it simple but it can produce some really nice fat sounds. Applying tape delay, reverb, phaser, ect. will also enhance the sound. I also included 32 presets for tweaking. Warping bassline (If you wanna call it that)Submitted by NeM on Fri, 2007-09-14 14:32.
It's attached, there is a slight click at the start but that can be avoided by changing the start time to the sample. Enjoy. -NeMSeR ( categories: Basses )
Multiband compressed / multi layered drums in FL StudioSubmitted by crank on Wed, 2007-09-12 20:13.
like you know dnb beats have made with extensive use of layering & compression. so the following setup could be tried to make the process more controllable. 2. make 3 send fx/channel buses. they will represent different frequency bands - low, mid & high frequency ranges. 3. send hit group fx/channel buses into them adjusting send amount to taste. 4. compress every frequency band to taste to achieve individual character on lows, mids & highs. in example fl studio project i used multiband compressor on send channels as a band filter & compressor. cross-fading frequencies are controllable through dashboard. Compression 101 : Teh BasicsSubmitted by crank on Sat, 2007-09-08 03:10.
Compression 101 : Teh Basics One of the most important things to learn while learning how to use a compressor is: learning when to use a compressor. If you're writing a song, every element in your song will not always need compression. You can use a compressor to make things "fat", you can use a compressor to make some things "thin", you can use a compressor for "color", you can use a compressor to just trim off some unwanted peaks, and some people use a compressor as an effect to make the music "pump". There are many uses for a compressor, I'm going to attempt to show you some basics here today, and I'll leave it up to you to find new ways of using a compressor. Lets begin with a question: What does a Compressor do? A Compressor can be used for a few different purposes, one of the most common is to turn loud sections in your audio lower without affecting the already quieter passages. For example, when your audio has very large volume peaks but the average volume of the sound, the RMS, is not very loud, you could then apply some compression to bring the peaks down and then boost the overall volume of it to increase the average volume. Here is an image I made of some audio where the first half of the clip was so much louder than the second half, that I could not turn it any louder because the first half would then be way too loud and clip. After compressing the audio though, you'll see that only the audio that was above the Threshold was lowered in volume, and the whole thing is a bit more leveled out now. I can now boost the overall signal louder without worrying about the beginning going over 0dB and clipping so quickly. (dont worry ill explain the Threshold next) ( categories: Production questions )
