I'd like to think that now that Mitch Mitchell passed one over to the other side, that he and the rest of the Jimi Hendrix Experience are doing a concert up in heaven.

I heard this on the radio recently and it took me way back. Your memory banks have probably forgot this one. Right now I am so broke, I've got to put it on Lay-Away.

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'"
Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A Changin' (Unreleased 1976)
Laying there with Mrs. F. I thought of this song by Robert Bradley's Backwater Surprise. Because this is the way the girl makes me feel. Such a thrill, such a thrill, for a million years.
But it is funny because I had not thought of this song in a while. So I had to look this up and to my surprise I found out that Robert Bradley has a new ablum coming out in October. So I guess this is timely too.
I have always liked these two songs by Jimi Hendrix, but I really like these two recordings from his concerts in Stockholm. Just good music, no overproduction, simple and stripped down to the core.

If you have bought any music from Walmart prior to the last six months that was covered by DRM (Digital Rights Management) then you may want to read this; Walmart Shutting Down Their DRM System.

I have always liked the poetry of this song. It kind of fits my mood right now. Video and lyrics for "How Bizarre" by New Zealand Band OMC.
OMC - How bizarre
Brother Pele's in the back, sweet Zina's in the front
Cruisin' down the freeway in the hot, hot sun
Suddenly red-blue lights flash us from behind
Loud voice booming, "Please step out onto the line"
Pele preaches words of comfort, Zina just hides her eyes
Policeman taps his shades, "Is that a Chevy '69?"
How bizarre
How bizarre, how bizarre
Destination unknown, as we pull in for some gas
Freshly pasted poster reveals a smile from the past
Elephants and acrobats, lions snakes monkey
Pele speaks "righteous," Sister Zina says "funky"
How bizarre
How bizarre, how bizarre
Ooh, baby (Ooh, baby)
It's making me crazy (It's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around (Everytime I look around)
Everytime I look around
It's in my face
Ring master steps out and says "the elephants left town"
People jump and jive, but the clowns have stuck around
TV news and camera, there's choppers in the sky
Marines, police, reporters ask where, for and why
Pele yells, "We're outta here," Zina says, "Right on"
We're making moves and starting grooves before they knew we were gone
Jumped into the Chevy and headed for big lights
Wanna know the rest? Hey, buy the rights...
How bizarre
How bizarre, how bizarre
Ooh, baby (Ooh, baby)
It's making me crazy (It's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around (Everytime I look around)
Everytime I look around
It's in my face
I bet your memory banks have even forgot about Johnny Guitar Watson, my online friend RecordGrooves reminded me. So I thought I would remind you all. And if you never heard of him, and you like guitar players, do yourself a favor and look him up.
Johnny Guitar Watson - A Real Mother For Ya
A Real Mother For Ya Lyrics
Wanna buy a new car
But the price ain't right
Be a downside cheaper (yes it would)
Star riding a bike
They are making milk out of powder
Got the baby's crying
Rich gone up higher
Got the parents lying
Lord , its a real mother for ya (yeah)
make you wanna run for cover
And if you look you will discover (yeah)
Lord, its a real mother for ya yeah.
Got to go to a disco
Throw your troubles away
Dance to the music
That the DJ's play
And then the light come on
Like you knew they would
Go home and face the music
that dont sound to good
Lord, its a real mother for ya (yeah)
make you wanna run for cover
And if you look you will discover (yeah)
Lord, its a real mother for ya yeah.
Lord , its a real mother for ya (yeah)
make you wanna run for cover (yes it will)
And if you look you will discover (yeah)
Lord, its a real mother for ya yeah
its a real mother for ya yeah (auw, get out of here)
So what was I saying? I have no idea either so check out this band called Balken Beat Box that I just stumbled accross, their music is a mix between world music, Jewish klezmer, Mediterranean and Balkan traditions with hip-hop and dancehall beats, with a big old helping of Jamican Dub, just to add some flavor. LOL.
Any way I thought you might like their music. Because I do.
I have all those lonely people on my mind, right now. Because I am one of them. No I'm not alone, there are people all around, but right now I am lonely. I think it is the backbeat in the Aretha Franklin version of this song. I read somewhere that she played the piano part on her version. That feeling you get when you listen to this song, that piano part, the organ, the drums and her voice. It makes me feel so sorry for Ms. Rigby.
And of course the Beatles version with those strings is very moving, I also like the Ray Charles version which I include here, but I do not think this is a good recording of his version. Though for me Aretha's version is the best of all. That is just my opinion, you may feel different. Check out the mp3 samples, because this song has been done by a few different artist.
I know where those lonely people come from, but I do not know where they belong.
Wikipedia has a very interesting write up on Eleanor Rigby;
As is true of many of McCartney's songs, the melody and first line of the song came to him as he was playing around on his piano. The name that came to him, though, was not Eleanor Rigby but Miss Daisy Hawkins. In 1966, McCartney recalled how he got the idea for his song:
“ I was sitting at the piano when I thought of it. The first few bars just came to me, and I got this name in my head... 'Daisy Hawkins picks up the rice in the church'. I don't know why. I couldn't think of much more so I put it away for a day. Then the name Father McCartney came to me, and all the lonely people. But I thought that people would think it was supposed to be about my Dad sitting knitting his socks. Dad's a happy lad. So I went through the telephone book and I got the name McKenzie.”
Others believe that Father McKenzie refers to 'Father' Tommy McKenzie, who was the compere at Northwich Memorial Hall.
McCartney originally imagined Daisy as a young girl, but anyone who cleaned up in churches would probably be older. If she were older, she might have missed not only the wedding she cleans up after but also her own.
His new album, "Skin Deep," opened at No. 68, his highest position to date on the Billboard 200. His previous best was the No. 136 peak for his first chart entry, 1991's "Damn Right, I've Got the Blues."
Do I really feel the way I feel??? I'm hoping that W.C. Handy will look down over me, yes I've got a first class ticket but I'm as blue as a boy can be!
