SHINE ON WRITING
Many times we're asked how we write a song. There's as many answers as songs out there. A typical way that we do it is that Jeff plucks - out of thin air - a chord progression and pitches it to Neil for the 'hook' melody and lyrics. Then we record it. (Used to be with keyboard drum sounds onto a 4-track cassette in the good old days!) Then we pitch it to Marnie and Matt for groove and vocal 'polishing' and arrangement. Then we rehearse it and introduce it it into our live set for a few times. Now - if the song has managed to survive each of these stages without getting thrown out - it usually has morphed to where we'll return to 'Studio Jeff' for pre-production. That's where we'll record our internal demo with a settled arrangement, and turn our attention to overdubs, harmonies, and other ear-candy. Which is where we're at with a few tunes that we expect will be on our new CD.
So the band are looking forward to some productive and fun times together, exploring sounds and arrangements, and watching the little red 'record' button lighting up once again.
