"Californication"
Reunited with producer Rick Rubin and
guitarist John Frusciante , the Chili Peppers waste no time in
burying their last effort, the so-so One Hot Minute. Californication's
kickoff cut, "Around the World," swaggers around the
room, reacquainting itself with old fans and welcoming new ones.
Fuzzy Hendrix vibes and popcorn bass lines still rule the roost,
along with a heaping helping of disco magic and some unexpected
twists. Ten years ago, Anthony Kiedis and company wouldn't have
been comfortable doing revamped new wave or unpretentious ballads
, but such material fits Californication's extra-wide canvas.
Except for a few meandering numbers that could have been excised,
the Chili Peppers succeed and regain their footing on the mountain
of adrenalized funk. --Jason Josephes |

Reviewer: A music fan from the US
I am a huge chili peppers fan and I've heard all their CD's,
and I'd have to say this is definitely one of the best... although
I can't say the best because I love BSSM and One Hot Minute too.
This has less funk, but the lyrics are great and I love how poetic
they are. This is definitely a new style for the Chili Peppers,
and although it's a little different, it's still great. It has
so many hits... otherside, californication, scar tissue, parrallel
universe, around the world, and i'm sure more to come. It's a
great CD and I love every single song. It's obvious that the
chili peppers put a lot of time and thought into this CD to make
it so good. This is definitely worth your money. |
