Forward (Tronic 1, 1993) Though not well-known, Latty Guzang has released a few albums and apparently has enough juice to get bigger names like Bobby Digital, Peter Chemist, Phillip Smart, Dean Frazer, and Steelie to work on this album. They must have owed him some sort of debt, though, because this album is horrible. Everything here is so stale, it reeks. The beats are either recycled dancehall rhythms or generic roots (and he has the nerve to have dubs of some of them), the melodies are corny and tired -- often incorporating folk songs, hymns, or nursery rhymes -- and Guzang's vocals are strained, bland, and uninteresting. Only "Party Rock" and perhaps "Trod Along" are worth anything. The rest would make a good paper weight. |
