Sensi Dub Volume 6 (Original Music, 1992)

Volume 6 in a series that has included Lee Perry & The Upsetters, King Tubby, and Sly & The Revolutionaries features two preeminent musical talents -- Glen Brown and Roots Radics -- performing below their ability on a dreary, disappointing set.  Fans of Augustus Pablo may appreciate Sensi Dub Volume 6, as it features a good amount of melodica, courtesy of Brown, but like some of Pablo's weaker work, it can get a bit tedious after a while.  The melodica lends an inherently peaceful sound, as Brown plays it in an improvisational manner over Roots Radics' driving bass.  This should be a winning combo, but none of these dubs is anything special, the best being "Indica Indica Dub," "Pipe of Peace Dub," and "The Healer Dub."  Cheapening the album is the fact that 4 of the tracks -- "Tampi Stump Dub," "Sensi Dub -- Part 6," "Smoking Cop Dub," and "Big Bamboo Dub" -- are each basically the same as the track that precedes them, but sans the melodica.  So essentially, there are really only 6 different rhythms here, making for an uneventful album.
