Currently, the album of the week is Alicia Keys - "The Diary Of Alicia Keys" I agree with most of the reviewers thus far. Alicia Keys went back to her roots of "original" soul music (Reference 60's & 70's). And, The instrumentation on this album is sweet. She has laid out more tracks where you can hear her piano (as corny as that may sound). I thought with her original release there would have been an apparent display of her talents as a pianist but there was not. This time around she came through. I was a little upset at her version of "If I Was Your Woman" she should have left that one up to Gladys Knight. It did not sound right with the mixture of the hip-hop beat/bassline but I guess that is her way of making a classic appeal to "my generation." I wonder if anyone had noticed that her voice sounded a little strained/thin in some of the tracks (?). I will say this about the album: It DOES NOT fit into mainstream media this time around which makes it that much better in my opinion. Therefore, People who are attempting to compare and contrast this album to the first will be disappointed. Personally, I thought the first album was weak especially when compared to her obvious competitor India Arie's Acoustic Soul (In reference to the Grammy awards of last year). You should give the album a thorough listen before dropping a few dollars on a LEGAL copy. It will rub some the right way (Those who appreciate REAL music of the 60's and 70's) and others it won't (Those who are mainstream listeners and could not point out quality if they wanted to). Alicia Key's latest effort: The Diary of Alicia Keys has managed to rub me the right way this time around. Her first effort did not.. ..I guess she did notice that her first effort was lacking and finally decided to deliver QUALITY this time around.
