Linda Hoyle - Pieces of Me (1971)
|
Although Linda Hoyle’s music falls into the folk-rock genre her “Pieces of Me” LP does not really give any indication of where to put here in the local brick and mortar record bins. I heard rock, folk, blues, honky-tonk, and any combination thereof on this varied interpretation of emotionally charged tunes. Her voice holds the magic, and I did notice that the expressive style of her delivery is what the norm is for the blues. Yet this is not a blues album by definition. The bottom line is not what kind of music it is…it is the content and quality that counts so much in a recording. There are ample amounts of both to enjoy on this LP.
The LP comes vividly packaged in a gatefold sleeves with the inner sleeves revealing the many faces of Hoyle in black and white photos. I noticed in some photos that she looks like the young and sexy temptress and in others the hardened veteran of life. The pictures are a reflection of her soul and so is her music. It does not get any more honest and for real than that.
