Camp Susannah - Happy Today
|
 Camp Susannah, when I heard the name I thought …interesting enough name, kind of like Zowie Bowie or Moon Unit, well, maybe not that far out. Susannah is actually Susannah Blinkoff, a talented vocalist with a penchant for poignant lyrics and stellar backing musicianship to bring it home to the heart on their new album Happy Today.
This woman has a tremendous voice; she is clear and intelligible, which is not a common factor amongst most recording artists these days. I know, I say that often, but its true, and that is why I can really appreciate a performer like Susannah.
The music is a polished brand of rock and pop with interesting alternative twist and turns. Sometimes it sounds like something you would hear blasting out of the speakers at an all night dance club and then again, something you would hear up and down your radio dial. Diversity certainly is not lacking here. The lyrical twists come in the form of interesting thought processes backed by entrancing musical foregrounds.
I particularly enjoyed the self analysis of “Talkin’ To Myself,” which states-You’re beautiful when you’re broken, when you don’t know what to do, I still love you, there’s a courage in your hopelessness and there’s a radiance deep inside the mess. A little food for thought for anyone that happens to be feeling that way on any given day, and we all do at times.
So not only do you get some great music to get in a groove, there is a real voice to sit back and enjoy, there are lyrics that you can clearly understand and relate to as well. That is the perfect package as far as I am concerned. Yeah, this CD was “Way OK” to me.
