 Linda Draper - Patchwork

Linda Draper - Patchwork Linda Draper’s musical tears are dropping like flies on her new release “Patchwork.” I am actually referring to her opening track “Seven Black Crows,” which sets the tone for this album.

I am finding with the passing of time how much more I can appreciate folk music and the artists that create it. Folk music does not excite nor energize me as rock music does; it relaxes me and helps me to become more introspective and reflective about life in general. That is a good thing for a high-energy individual like me. Draper’s words and music are evocative and her voice is thing of beauty. With perky music having wisdom beyond its years and a lightness and depth in every tune, listeners will find absoluteness in this listening experience. That is a rare thing in music, or anything else for that matter.

“Here I Am” is a quirky number making a comparison between cars and people-“Cars are like people, when one cries they all start to cry.” I find that a fascinating if not ironic parallel with machines and man. Man makes the machine and the machine makes man? Some words to chew on for a while to say the least. This album succeeds in its goal to touch you in a way that you will remember. You will be reaching for it again to relive the experience and you will invariably hear something else you did not hear the first time. To me that is what a good album is supposed to do.

Linda Draper has a lot of talent as writer and guitar player and I am sure she will only get better with each album she records, and that is something to look forward to.
