 Richmond - Self-Titled

Richmond - Self-Titled This band caught me off guard, totally. After listening to their self-titled CD Richmond, I was impressed with their multi-faceted attack. A rock group with enough foresight to make music so eclectic that they appeal to a wide range of audiences has my vote as perceptive and intelligent artists.

They rock hard intensely with a punk attitude and on the opposite end of the spectrum sing a softer rock-pop track with hooks in it like “Christina”, or throw a country fried bluesy influenced tune like “From Far Away” at you just to make you wonder exactly where it is they will be coming from next.

Let’s see now, how many influences would such a diverse band have? Well, I heard The Replacements, Bob Dylan, U2 (Bono), and Rolling Stones (Jagger) for starters, which is quite a lot. I guess you could call it genre displacement or something like that. In a word, their meal ticket is variety. I advise that you are patient with this CD and give yourself many opportunities to adjust to all of the changes in sound and style that you will hear. Personally, I needed more than one listen before I truly realized how much I liked it. If music captures my imagination and curiosity enough and gives me the willingness to hear it more than once, I know that there is something going on that is worth looking into. I highly recommend this CD for your observant ears.
