Alex Woodard - Mile High
|
Alex Woodard reaches for the stars on a Mile High, his entertaining collection of rock-pop gems. Through ten tracks of varying textures and moods, Woodard takes you on musical walk through his world.
On the title track, he sings with emotional spirit-“And I think I am a mile high, I’ve never felt nothing quite like this, the more I love you, the higher I fly.” It is obvious that Woodard is singing about the love of his life. The importance of expressing his affection for this person becomes his lifeblood and his very survival is dependent upon it. Then, as his love grows, the feelings are beyond the words he expresses. Anyone with a beating heart has had or has someone in his or her life that is this important, it is what makes us sentient beings.
This intense emotional heat comes expressed abundantly in the words and music, and each component compliments the other, making the story come alive and as real to you as it is to him. That kind of musical communication is very powerful and Woodard ably delivers consistently throughout the run of this CD.
The musical clarity is exceptional and the musicianship outstanding on this album. I really appreciated the lyrical content; it is all true to the heart introspection of one’s soul, with a sense of purpose. While the lyrical content focuses on the relevance of our humanity the music takes many different directions, its kind of like a thermometer that is in and out of the sun, as the temperature goes up and down, so goes the feelings and musical approach on Mile High. The right combination of guitar, keyboards (particularly the B3 organ), French horn, violin, percussion, bass, and pedal steel makes each individual tune jell into one poetic musical journey.
Find out for yourself and listen to reach your own conclusions regarding this music, as it is so much more than all the emotional atmospheres I speak of, it is all a great variety of music with a lot to offer a listener. Is this musical heaven? Well, darn near as it gets for rock-pop music. Woodard is a legitimate talent with a bright future ahead of him.
