Various - Storm In The Garage (3 CD Box Set)
|
Now this is rock 'n' roll people! Some of the best garage rock from U.S. bands, some known and others more obscure, that were actively recording from 1965-69 fill this three-disc set (72 tracks in total) titled Storm In The Garage. What I find amazing is how good and how mature these bands sound, many them were a bunch of teenagers strapping on guitars for the first time in mom and dad's garage (hence the term garage rock was born).
The artwork in this set is eye popping and entertaining, a perfect tribute to that time. I remember being a little boy watching my older brother build all of his Rat Fink and monster models and then painting them, making them colorful goofy looking characters. Each CD cover and the informative booklet gives you an example of that period artwork and culture (which predominately was a combination of drag and surf music). This set is overflowing with garage, psych, rhythm & blues and pop gems that will transport you back to the '60s in a blink of an eye.
This is a perfectly extraordinary boxed set. It is without fail above average in every aspect including the sound. In all probability, some of the acetates the label had to deal with were sub standard, and that fact alone makes this a major accomplishment and triumph.
You would think after 72 tracks that would have been enough for me. I enjoyed it so much I felt I could have listened to another three discs easily. The reason is that the mix is good. The combination of garage, psychedelic, pop, R & B, and some rough shots of raw white boy blues-rock kept me interested and on my toes listening to every single track. What a blast from the past this was. This boxed set is a treasure awaiting your discovery, its rock music at its purest most elemental level, in a day when life was so much simpler and stress free. This is highly recommended, a must have collectable for any rock music fan.
