Martin Craig - Mile After Mile

Martin Craig - Mile After Mile Mile After Mile is an album of English road songs by Martin Craig, a legendary performer in the realm of folk-rock music. The 1973 single “Rockin' at the Ace Cafe,” held in high regard to this day, ignited interest in the of the legendary 50s and 60s British biker hang out in North London.

With lines like “If a bike was a woman, she'd have been a Thunderbird,” Craig’s appeal to the biker crowd is understandable. I am not a biker but I could relate to the lyrics just the same and I found the music had an irresistible rhythm that continued to grow on me with each listen. The power and slap-you-in-the-face reality of the lead track “Contract Killer” sets you up for the dose of real life reality you are going to get in this music like the wake up call “Grease on my Pillow.”

With a superb rhythmic sense and a poet’s heart, Craig takes you through each story with picturesque clarity. Each song is an ongoing personal chronicle from a true warrior-poet’s perspective. His reflective prose forces you to get out of your own head, or out from where the sun does not shine, whatever the case may be. For me personally, this music served as a welcome relief to my over active cranium, as I am not my own best company at times.

I truly love music like this because it has depth and meaning to the performer and it in turn finds a way to make you feel the same way after you hear it. These are all songs from the heart portraying the world stage we all perform on, and it does not get any more prolific than that.
