 First, I need to thank Brian “The Devil” Coles (producer and proud owner of http://www.electricbasement.com) for providing a copy of this rockin’ 2 CD set for my review. I really appreciate his work and the strong commitment he has to giving independent music a fair shot. This 2 CD set comes as advertised; it is a quality recording complete with great artwork, liner notes, and details of each track included.
If ya like bang yer head music and balls to the walls rock, this album will knock your socks off (amongst other things). Thirty-one tracks spanning two CDs is a lot of music to cover so keep in mind that not every single track is a pearl awaiting your discovery, although some are very good mind you, so stay in positive frame of mind because there is a lot of hard rockin’ guitar oriented music for you to sink your teeth into. Most of these bands are major league caliber; others try very hard but fall short, sounding like Judas Priest clones. For those of you into off-the-beaten-path and out-of-the-mainstream type of music (none of this is what I would consider mainstream anyway), there is a band called Avalanch singing in a Spanish. The funny thing is (being that the rest of the recording is all in English) it happens to be one of the best tracks on the album.
What is the most compelling factor about this recording is that everyone involved is competing for the same audience. I have to tip my hat to all of these bands for putting their best foot forward and giving it their best shot to capture the imagination of metal lovers worldwide, for the most part they get the job done. They all certainly have the devil inside that instigates such loud and brash fun, and that is exactly what this music is all about, a good time!
