Nura - Nura
|
Canadian artist Nura could be the next sensation on the contemporary jazz and adult listening charts once people hear her self-titled release on Start Music Productions. If she gets the right opportunity and cracks the tough U.S. market, the sky would be the limit for this diversely talented diva. The all around talent is there for success; I have no question about that. Her lovely voice is her strongest ally. Nura is able to jump back and forth from smooth upbeat jazz numbers like “We’re Not Alone” to polished pop flavored gems like “You and Me,” then do a complete turnaround with a rap-pop track called “Hangin.’” The one song that swept me away was the dreamy “Luminescence,” an absolute blissful vocal workout; it reminded me of Airto and Flora Purim at the height of their creative powers.
I think the key ingredient to success in the music world today is to offer the listener every possible style within a genre. Nura fills your plate on this CD completely, leaving no room for dessert. None of these compositions fall short on the musical side of the fence either, she has a top-notch band backing her. It is obvious that seasoned veterans as Stuart Stienhart played critical roles in making this project such a kaleidoscope of musical expressions that it is.
This is a gorgeous production and tastefully done, it made me feel all warm and toasty inside. Nura is one of newest brightest talents recording now. She is ready to take you away on a musical journey you will not forget, and in case you need to be reminded how good the first trip was you can do it all over again, just hit play.
