Marvin Gaye - Searching Soul
|
Searching Soul is a 30-minute DVD featuring the legendary Marvin Gaye. Filmed in Ostende, Belgium, it is a short documentary with music clips, which is not a lot considering the enormity of Gaye’s career. Gaye talks about his personal views in life, his family, musical influences, and religion. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Inner City Blues" and "What's Going On" are amongst the classics included, once again hardly enough to whet your appetite, as they are only clips. Sadly, the only full piece is Gaye standing in a church singing a soulful version of “Our Father,” which only last a few minutes but I found it quite beautiful regardless.
The quality of this video is horrendous; the label should have done some searching of soul themselves before releasing this embarrassment to a grand career. A constant blight is a red line that keeps popping up on the top of screen; actually, the entire movie is cloudy and poor. I would not recommend this DVD to even the most ardent fan of Gaye’s career. There are many other DVD’s available right now that would most certainly be much better than this one.
