 Nazareth - Razamanaz

Nazareth - Razamanaz I remember Nazareth because of one album, Hair of the Dog. I always felt it was one of the best rock albums of the ‘70s and I still believe it to be so.

The Razamanaz DVD was created from footage at a live performance at London’s Camden Palace in 1985. While it may not be the most comprehensive live collection from the Scottish rockers, it is a fair representation of their output up to that point in time in the band’s career.

Visually they were flat but their sound was adequate and enough to keep the crowd alive during the performance. I am not familiar at all with Camden Palace; it seemed like a smaller venue though. The only thing they used was the dry ice for the smoky effect, other than that is was just Nazareth straight up, which is not such a bad thing because they were a good, no frills rock band.

“This Month’s Messiah,” “Beggars Day“and “Hair of The Dog” are the best performances. Their version of “Cocaine” was peculiar. It was had a chopped up reggae sound to it. No bonuses or interviews are available on the DVD and it could have used a few as the concert was lacking in total substance. If you like your concert short and sweet and happen to like Nazareth, you will appreciate this DVD.
