Woody Herman - King Cobra (1974/2002)

Woody Herman - King Cobra (1974/2002) Woody Herman had many different incarnations of his big band sound. “King Cobra” was his attempt at remaining young and sounding hip with the times even though his was getting on in years. His “Thundering Herd” was an assorted bunch to say the least.

I found this to be a rather pleasurable listen. For the genre it was advanced and very cool considering the timeframe it was recorded. It remains a top-notch melding of modern day electronics, with big band jazz and swing being the dominating factors.

It isn’t what I would consider to be a classic or standard jazz album, but it sure is fun. It swings all the way through the seven tracks. It makes you smile, puts you in a good mood, and sets your body into motion. That’s enough for me to make it an important piece in my collection.
