 Penny Dreadful - Sanctuary

Penny Dreadful - Sanctuary Penny Dreadful is a thought provoking name now isn’t it? Well, it’s supposed to be. It’s in reference to the music business and how hard it is to become recognized and actually claim total success without being discarded and thrown into the penny bins at your local mall. There are such a small percentage of groups that ever really get a fair shot at making it. This groups name alone ought to garner some attention. The name is clever by design, and I think it will accomplish what the group intended it to. There is one other thing that really got my attention though, there music! Wow! It hit me square between the eyes. These guys rock hard and fast. Five tracks seems hardly enough, you just start getting tuned into there vibe and its over. Oh well, such is the lifespan of an EP. The lead singer John Gidlund echoes the style and sound of Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, and alarmingly so on “Isles,” although their sound musically is not anything like them.

This is a power packed trio with knockout hooks and the talent to go to the next level the next time out with a full length release. As a matter of fact, I think they are already there and poised to move up another rung on the musical merry-go-round of becoming a known entity in rock circles. This EP really succeeds in getting the word out about their music; it’s strong from beginning to end and leaves you with a hunger for more of the same. I can see these boys going places real soon, especially if they get a head of steam on the concert circuit. Watch this band; you will hear more about them soon.
