Jimi Hendrix - Classic Singles Collection

Jimi Hendrix - Classic Singles Collection The legend of Jimi Hendrix continues to grow with each passing day. Mere mortals get older, and Hendrix remains young, and oh so alive in our consciousness. His music has kept him alive forever. He decided to take it upon himself to leave the physical plane many years ago. He came rolling through like a freight train in the night and left like a whisper in the wind. Only special people can work magic like that. Hendrix had what it takes to make it all happen. What he accomplished in a mere five years has given us a lifetime of enjoyment.

Classic Record's (1998) limited edition boxed singles set really sets itself apart from any other reissue or collection that has been released to date. Not only because they are quality 180 gram vinyl 7" records... They happened to choose the ideal artist to dedicate such an attractive collectable set to.

With everything he has ever done in demand since the day he died, Hendrix's music has gone through an ever-growing transformation. Now his legacy resides in the hands of his family, and only now is his catalog receiving the care and respect that it has always deserved.

I have never heard a song by this man that I did not like. He never made music that wasn't lacking emotion, preciseness, and thought. His popularity rivals, and quite possibly exceeds, that of The Beatles and Elvis. Why? Because he was a charismatic, talented, guitar genius that made his mark very quickly, then just as quickly he exited, leaving us in disbelief and bewilderment. Somehow, I just know that he would want it this way. His persona followed him right to his grave, and there has been no one like him since.

I heard some different versions of familiar songs, and some for the first time. "Up From The Skies," "Gypsy Eyes," "Long Hot Summer Night," "Rainy Day, Dream Away," and "Room Full Of Mirrors," all strengthened the enigma that was Jimi Hendrix. They are all definitive Hendrix, and classic rock and roll. These tracks are further proof of Hendrix's deep understanding of the blues and his commitment to those roots. He knew how to execute blues and jazz rudiments within the structure of modern rock. He was one of the first to accomplish this, yet nobody gave him much credit for it while he was doing it. Everyone seemed to be enthralled with the mystique of rock and roll that he created around himself. We all seemed to forget what the music and message was about. Getting caught up in the romanticism of the music isn't uncommon. It takes a severe wake up call, something permanent, like death, to wake us up.

The man is gone but his music lives on. We are fortunate to relive it in different incarnations and formats repeatedly. This is one collection however that should not slip through your hands. It comes with ten 45s, the original cover art, and a beautiful informative booklet with detailed liner notes and scrupulous attention to every detail of the recording process. It sells for $65.00 retail, which is well worth the cost. I would be willing to bet that this set will triple in value in a few short years. This can be your own priceless piece of rock and roll heaven.
