The Cruzarz - So True
|
 The Holiday season is rapidly approaching and messages of love and thankfulness for our lives become more prevalent than any other time of year. There are no coincidences in life, and that is the reason I received this CD to listen and absorb, every single note and word.
The Cruzarz recently released “So True” and it could not be a more appropriate title, everything that they sing about is so true. It does not hurt to have it all set to a rockin’ appealing beat either. They rock and roll just as if they were any other good rock band worth their salt would, the difference is that they have a very strong message to deliver while you are tapping your feet and bopping your head to their music. Lead singer Owen Gwyn sounds like Dave Alvin (The Blasters and several excellent solo albums) as he works his way through each song with a soulful bluesy deeply emotive vocal style. There are some good guitar riffs throughout this album and the musical recipe gets a shot of spice with some flavorful saxophone, then for the final ingredients, a flute and harp become part of the mixture for a little slice of heaven.
These people are not a bunch of Bible thumpers; they are talented musicians that carry a spiritual message through their music. If you can clear your mind and open your ears for a half hour you will feel a lot different about any misconceptions or stereotypes that may have been put inside your head about a Gospel group. I just finished listening to Kerry Livgren (formerly of Kansas) and felt the same kind of warmth and inspiration in his music.
Just think, all you have to do is kick back listen to the music and let it happen and The Cruzars will rock your soul from head to toe. That is not a bad deal for giving up a half hour of your day.
