Various - From Matrimony to Alimony-Blues for Good Love Gone Bad

Various - From Matrimony to Alimony-Blues for Good Love Gone Bad I love it when Telarc releases a compilation with one of those made to order blues titles such as “From Matrimony to Alimony-Blues for Good Love Gone Bad.” Lord have mercy on our souls! It just cannot get any clearer than that now can it? It gets even better for me because I have heard all of the albums that the tracks are culled from and it and sparks all those good memories of how I rocked and rolled and went up and down with each blues drenched cut.

How could any blues lovin’ man or woman not relate to Luther “Guitar” Johnson singing “I Pity The Fool” with his cut-like-a-knife guitar licks burning it up like it was the last song he ever played? Let me tell you, the da blues just does not get any better than that. Then of course, there is the incomparable Kenny Neal, Charlie Musslewhite, Tab Benoit, Jimmy Thackery, and the amazing Joe Louis Walker. What a lineup! I absolutely love “Deal With It,” everything about it just rocks my soul I tell you, the words, music and emotion are mixed so well by Neal, Benoit and Debbie Davies. When the last track is playing and Sam McClain is belting out “Battlefield of Love,” you know that they blues are not ever going to be over because it lives and thrives every day whether we want to admit it or not. Life itself is one big rollercoaster ride we are all on, and the ride is just a bit easier when you listen to the blues. In an ironic kind of way, you laugh and shake your head all the while your body is in a perpetual state of motion with the music, which in turn makes you happy and feel good. It is a special thing digging the blues and understanding them, there could not be a better group of folks to convey all of that then the musicians on this CD. Telarc has done it again; we have yet another ace in the hole for the king of the blues labels.
