Whitesnake - Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake Collection (2 CDs)

Whitesnake - Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake Collection (2 CDs) Your search for the ultimate Whitesnake collection can now end. “Here I Go Again: The Whitesnake Collection” just may satisfy that longing you have had for all those great rock songs that you heard from this offshoot group of Deep Purple. Originally, David Coverdale took band mates Jon Lord and Ian Paice with him to kick off what would be a successful sojourn down the rock ‘n’ path to stardom. What would happen after their departure changed the groups’ fortunes, literally. Coverdale would go it alone with an influx of new and younger talent after the exit of his longtime partners. The group had a new sleek mainstream sound that perpetuated a consistent pumping out of hit after hit. Despite several lineup changes, accidents, and then Coverdale losing his voice forcing him to miss a year of performing, they weathered the storm and were one of the most successful rock acts of the 80’s.

There is not any question that elements of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin prevail throughout their music…a Page like guitar riff here and a Plantesque wail there, then a dash of the rock blues to give it all a tougher edge. It made it more acceptable to their fans without it all sounding overtly commercial and too mainstream. Regardless, you cannot argue with their formula of success. Coverdale was pulling all the right strings and keeping himself on top of his game. He left one of the greatest bands in the world to create his own legacy, and he had one the most distinctive soulful and bluesy vocal styles in rock music, which he used to bring his sex appeal to another altitude, winning an uncharacteristic female fan base.

This is quite a package; you get 35 smokin’ rock tracks that cover 1984-90, which is the meat of the group’s work. Every track from “Slide It In,” “Whitesnake,” and “Slip Of The Tongue” is included plus a few non-album tracks to tickle your fancy. The best part about it is you get it all in glorious 96k/24-Bit High Resolution remastered sound. Informative liner notes are part of the parcel as well; one can never underestimate the importance of a good write up before the expectant audience gives the music a spin for the first time. I think fans of the group will be very pleased with this tribute. Who knows? Some new fans may be gained along the way too. After all, you cannot beat great rock music. The good stuff may go away for a fashion but it always resurfaces to rekindle the eternal musical flame. It is time once again to let Whitesnake light your fire.
