Ohio Players - Funk On Fire-The Mercury Anthology (2 CD Set) (1995/...
|
I remember “Fire” as being one of the coolest songs I had ever heard, then right after that “Love Rollercoaster” found its way to my turntable. I had the 45’s but somehow missed the LP’s, although I do remember the eye catching covers.
The Ohio Players were huge in the 70’s; they were always on the charts and one of the best funk-rock-pop groups of that time. Little did I know that they actually started out in 1959 as the Ohio Untouchables. If you were aware of that I tip my hat to you, you know your music.
This two CD set is packed and oozing with more funk than a disco on a Saturday night in NYC in the 70’s. It is some of their best material, including some hot instrumentals and even a Holiday track.
Whose got the funk and still has it? There is no question after hearing this remastered compilation. I have not heard a group like this come around since they were in their prime. So, what the funk is up? It is time to get into some Ohio Players again.
