 Amy Kuney - EP

Amy Kuney - EP Amy Kuney looks so young and innocent on the cover of her new recording EP. Well as they say, looks can be deceiving. This lady is light years ahead of what her youthful appearance may project. In six catchy tunes about life and love, she sings like a seasoned veteran with purpose and reason. From the opening track, I realized that her voice had a sense of maturity far beyond her years.

I have to say that I really enjoyed all six tracks with equality. They all have their own personality backed by excellent instrumentation. As I flipped through the CD jacket, I noticed at the top of every page with the lyrics it said, “Words and music by Amy Kuney.” There are no covers or other writers involved on this project, it is all original material, and all of it is very good.

When the curtain opens with “So Help Me God” and you hear Amy singing-yeah, yeah, and then she stretches out that last yeah right into first line of the song with an innate sense of rhythm and feeling-you know that straight away you are hearing something good. You also come to the realization that all of the bubbling over of feelings and emotions you are picking up through the words and music will not end after the first song is over. It is only the beginning of the ride. Rest assured this turns out to be the case. I found all of this to be very sincere and heart-warming music, even if some of the subject matter is quite serious, you cannot help liking the voice of this young lady, regardless of the atmosphere or purpose of the song. Even on “Breaking Bad Habits” when she sings, “I’m breaking bad habits and you’re the first one to go,” you cannot help but smile anyway. I really appreciated “Sold Out” as well. The words are very powerful and the music just as effective. Amy sings about a woman wanting the adoration of her fans and being a mom and wife at the same time but it is just not working out, her husband is not giving her the attention she needs. She reminds the recipient of her words that he will want her when she is gold and sold out. I imagine this scenario unfolds enough in real life when someone makes it big.

At times Kuney sounds like a borderline jazz singer, and could easily take that road if she chooses to. Her talents are many and the sky is the limit for this young lady. She’s already got an opportunity of a lifetime for her great efforts on this debut with an airing of the song "So Help Me God” on the NBC daytime soap opera Passions on the 8th of February. You know this is something special and only the beginning of a great career, you can hear the confidence and determination in her voice and the heart in every song on EP. What more needs to be said? Check it out for yourself.
