Laura Day - It’s You
|
Her name is Laura Day. Although she only allows you to see part of her face, the picture of her inside the CD sure lets you know just how stunning and photogenic she really is. Well as we know, especially when it comes to music, looks are not everything. In this case, the face matches the voice. Day sings like an angel, reminiscent of Nancy Wilson. I would be willing to bet that this singer admires the Wilson sisters. She is very tasteful and articulate within the five tracks offered up on this impressive EP.
Unfortunately, the CD is only a taste of her, just like the picture. An EP is a great way to jump-start some interest in your music. Although there is only so much you can display within five songs, Day does a nice job of covering many different styles so you have a chance to see how diverse she can be.
The opener “David’s Eyes” shows how vulnerable and soft she can be in her man’s eyes while “Jamaica By The Sea” attempts to take you there right to the beach with the sound of the waves caressing your senses as you listen to Day’s warm and inviting vocals. “It Don’t Take Much (I’m Gettin’ Antsy) shows an entirely different side of her- the rebellious and devil-may-care aspect of her personality. It is all set to some funky blues-rock rhythms to get you in the same mood that she is feeling. “Black Crow (In The Snow)” is a beautiful track, its just her acoustic guitar and her voice, which is enough for me. The observance of Mother Nature and her children can be a spiritual experience, and this tune certainly indicates that the artist is well aware of what is happening around her. All you have to do is stop and look out your window for a few minutes, there is a lot going on with the creatures that come and go during the course of a day. I really appreciate her insight and sensitiveness to all of that.
Laura Day is talented in many ways and I tip my hat to her for being able to display all of who she is on an EP.
Artist Comments on Wilson Sister’s Reference: And you're right - I'm a big Wilson sisters fan. I can play almost every song they have ever recorded. (Learning the intro to "Crazy On
You" was quite a challenge, playing along with the L.P. until I got it down.) Besides their traditional hits, I love "Even It Up", "Heartless", and "Kick It Out"- Laura Day
